Combatting SEXUAL HARASSMENT
UCT LAW JANUARY 2018

SEXUAL HARASSMENT IS WRONG
Sexual harassment is a barrier to learning in the classroom and to productivity in the workplace. All of us, including staff, administrators, managers, supervisors, and students, have the responsibility for the creation and maintenance of a Kramer environment free from sexual harassment. Every member of the Kramer community should be aware that UCT is strongly opposed to sexual harassment and that such behaviour is prohibited both by UCT policy and by law. Please see UCT’s sexual harassment policy at: _policy.pdf

HOW TO FIGHT SEXUAL HARASSMENT
Don’t be part of the problem. For starters, don’t harass anyone. Be mindful of the language you use when you talk about the physical attributes of people, for example “She’s “hot” is not an appropriate public description of someone. If a person who has been harassed tells you about it, believe them. Don’t underestimate how hard it is to talk about these things. If you know someone who has been harassed, connect them to resources who can help, such as the ones found here:

WITNESS? BYSTANDER? If you are a witness or bystander and see a harassing situation, you can help the person being harassed. You could actually intervene. You could confront the harasser. You could also help the person get out of the harassing situation. If you cannot do any of these things, you can still support the harassed person by corroborating and confirming the account of what happened. Important numbers: Office Tel: ; After-hours:
