What is Financial Aid? Financial Aid is money provided to students and families to help pay for an accredited college or vocational/trade school.

Financial Aid Applications
FAFSA DREAM ACT US Citizen or Permanent Resident Have a Record I-94 with a Refugee or Asylum Granted designation Have a T Visa Application opens on October 1st Deadline March 2nd Meet AB 540 Criteria Under California law AB 540, certain nonresident students are exempt from paying nonresident supplemental tuition. Selective Service Requirement
Requirement for all males between the ages of 18 and 25 Register through the FAFSA or the Dream Application

FSA ID-ONLY NEEDED FOR FAFSA APPLICANTS
Student will need to create an FSA ID that will be their electronic signature If parents have a social security number they will also have to create an FSA ID If parents do not have a social security number students will need to print and mail the signature page

(Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.) Next steps for FAFSA Application
Create FSA ID for Student and Parent(s)/guardian(s) (parents with valid SS# only) Provide your student with the information needed to complete the application as soon as possible. Once you file a FAFSA application you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the federal processor. To check the status of your application, visit fafsa.gov. You can submit corrections to your application online through fafsa.gov

DREAM ACT APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Attended a California high school for at least three years, OR Attainment of credits in California from a California high school equivalent of at least three or more years of full-time high school coursework and a total of three or more years of attendance in California Elementary schools, California secondary schools, or a combination of those schools. Graduated or will graduate from a California high school or attainment of General Education Development (GED), High School Equivalency Test (HiSET), or Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC), AND Will register or enroll in an accredited and qualifying California college or university, AND If applicable, complete an affidavit to legalize immigration status as soon as you are eligible, AND Do not hold a valid non-immigrant visa (F, J, H, L, A, B, C, D, E, etc.)* *If you have Temporary Protected Status or hold a U visa

Next steps for DREAM ACT Application
Create a DREAM ACT Account Obtain parent(s)/guardian(s) information including Tax Return 2016 Complete application as soon as possible Once you file a Dream Act Application, you will need to login to dream.csac.ca.gov to view your SAR or to check the status of your application You can submit corrections to your application online through dream.csac.ca.gov

Next Steps… Your student should create a WGS Account
Do this after you have submitted the FAFSA or Dream Act Application Use a desktop or laptop Make sure your name on the FAFSA or Dream Act is the exact same names as it is on your transcript. Your name should match the name on your SS card and/or birth certificate Dream Act applicants use the Dream Act ID# to create this account Confirm the schools you want to receive your financial aid information Confirm your high school graduation date (Must be completed in June) Check your ! Add Dept. of Education to your SAFE list, and check your spam and junk folders regularly.

Signed FAFSA/CADAA application is sent to the Federal Processor/CSAC Student Submits FAFSA/Dream School Receives FAFSA/CADAA Information from Federal Processor/CSAC Schools Receive FAFSA/Dream College/university contacts student directly Student may be chosen for verification Student is Contacted

Award Letter Sometime in the spring, you will receive your Financial Aid Package (Reward) from the University/Colleges to which you are accepted. Income Verification- You may be asked by the school to ALSO submit an IRS Transcript of your 2016 tax return. This can be ordered online at the IRS website for a small fee. NOT a copy of the tax return.

Expected Family Contribution (EFC)
Cost of Attendance Expected Family Contribution (EFC) Financial Need Financial Need Tuition and fees Books and supplies Room and board Transportation Loan fees Personal/Misc. Financial need is the difference between the COA and the EFC Need may be different at each school EFC determines eligibility for need-based aid EFC is not an amount the student or the parent(s) must pay

Drop in hours at the Career Center during October and November Thursdays after school 2:45 pm- 4:00 pm Tuesdays and Fridays during school hours Students must have signed permission slip
