7 Unit #1 Test Review 13) An indentured servant was a person that entered into a contract with a wealthy colonist. They were given a chance to come to the New World in exchange for their labor. They had the choice to enter into this contract. At the end of the contract, they were paid “freedom dues”, like land, money or goods. On the other hand, slaves did not have any contract. They were brought here against their own will. They were treated much worse than the indentured servants. In most cases, they could not work their way to freedom.
