Miners moved onto Cherokee land without their permission Led to Trail of Tears 1838 Lasted 20 years until gold was found in CALIFORNIA!!

4 Indian Removal Act Passed in 1830 Led to Trail of Tears in 1838
Jackson was out of office and the next president, Martin Van Buren carried it out! Led by US Army (15,000 total) Marched to reservations in Oklahoma 4,000 Cherokee died!

John Marshall (Chief Justice of US Supreme Court)= Thought Cherokee were independent and had rights to the land Andrew Jackson (President)= fought against Native Americans in many battles and wanted them removed from GA
