When people are asked how they would define freedom, everyone would think and experience freedom in a different way. On one side freedom can be described as a free will or ability to make choices in life as it is demonstrated in the autobiography 127 Hours written by Aron Ralston. On the other hand it can be a convenient escape as it is shown in the play The Glass Menagerie, written by Tennesse Williams. In the following, freedom can be discussed on the example of two main characters in the studied works and how this has changed their lives either positively or negatively. Introduction

In conclusion it can be said that both characters had to make sacrifices in order to achieve freedom. This means that while Tom has to leave his family to achieve freedom, Aron has to amputate his arm in order to get his freedom back. Although Tom‘s dream came true, he is still confronted with his past life, whereas Aron enjoys every single moment in his life as he had learned how it feels when freedom is taken away. Overall, both characters value freedom highly and learned from their past and their mistakes, which let them appreciate freedom. Conclusion
