Graduate College--Brown Bag Lecture Series Thursday, March 3 Room 287, Rod Library 12:30 p.m. – 1:20 p.m. Please bring your Lunch Cookies will be provided “A “Redeeming” Darkness: The Subversion of Exodus Motifs in Job’s Curse (Job 3:3-10)” Dr. John Burnight Assistant Professor of Philosophy & World Religions This paper provides an intertextual reading of the curse with which Job opens the poetic portion of the book of Job in chapter 3. It is argued that the poet is alluding to and subverting—other biblical stories and themes in order to create an early form of protest literature.
