Successful Aging Selective Optimization with Compensation
(Baltes, Baltes, Freund, & Lang, 1995): reflects the dynamic interplay between gains and losses or between adaptive potentials and age-related decline. Selection: The adaptive task of the individual and society to concentrate on those domains that are of high priority. Optimization: Engaging in behaviors that enrich and augment an individual’s general reserves. Compensation: Using devices, strategies, aids to make-up for losses and to function adequately.
