Martin Seligman Martin Seligman is an American psychologist, educator, and author of self-help books. Since the late 1990s, Seligman has been an avid promoter within the scientific community for the field of positive psychology.

The purpose of the experiment
The purpose of this experiment is to see if people or animals will learn to take action and escape or just be helpless.

Summary of the experiment
This experiment was used to see if animals could take a beating and try to escape or fight back or if they would remain helpless. The things involved were animals to see if they would escape. Dogs were kept in shuttle box apparatus. They switched dogs every time they restarted the experiment. It was conducted in 1967 at the university of Pittsburgh

Experiment Results Many animals were discovered to be helpless but there were also multiple animals who were not helpless

Problems with the research
Some problems included unclear readings, multiple different results, and finding people to do the experiment.

Would we have participated
Katie Cheyanne and Joe would have participated because we want to know if we are depressed or not, Alex would not participate because she's the weird one of the group.
