Childhood and Education
Born to a wealthy family in Hyde Park, New York – Even though he had a private tutor until he was 14 and later attended a private school, he was taught to help the needy. Attended Harvard University and Columbia Law School and became a lawyer.

Life After School Became a Senator for New York and later governor of New York. Caught polio when he was 39 –it paralyzed his legs and he had to use crutches or a wheel chair to get around. Elected president in 1932 – served 4 terms as president He married Eleanor Roosevelt.

Political Impact President during the Great Depression
In his first “hundred days” as president he proposed “New Deal” programs to help Americans survive the Great Depression (TVA, CCC, WPA, Social Security). Was the first president to address the American people over the radio with his “fireside chats” Led the U.S. into World War II after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.
