Structure Engineering of Side Chain Perylene Tetracarboxylic Diimide Diblock Copolymers
Shi Jin, Department of Chemistry, College of Staten Island, the City University of New York, Staten Island, NY 10314 Controlled -stacks: Our designation for controlling the structure of perylene tetracarboxylic diimide -stacks at several different levels, which may lead to novel optoelectronic functional materials self-assemble We aim to prepare optoelectronic active organic materials by controlling the perylene tetracarboxylic diimide (PDI) -stacks at different levels. By controlling PDI -stacks, we have obtained semi-conducting PDI derivatives with order tunable from 3D long-ranged ordered crystalline phase, to 3D ordered liquid crystalline phase, 2D and 1D ordered liquid crystalline phase and eventually amorphous glassy phase. Other notable outcomes from this study include: Evidence of microphase segregation between flexible tails Discovery of a new phase of condense matter Successfully incorporation of PDI into both main-chain and side-chain polymers
