Solubility & Saturated Solutions
2
Solubility Is usually measured in grams per unit volume of solvent.
For example, grams/liter. The solubility of a solute changes with temperature. For example: You can dissolve a lot more sugar in hot tea than in cold tea. Cold water has a lot more dissolved oxygen than does warm water.
3
Saturated solutions …are solutions in which the solvent can not hold anymore solute (at a given temperature).
4
Volume and Dissolving What happens to the volume of a solution when you dissolve a solute into a solvent? Does it go up, down, stay the same?? (Do lab 14) to find out what happens.
5
Mass and Dissolving What happens to the mass of a solution when you dissolve a solute into a solvent? Does it go up, down, stay the same?? (Do lab 14) to find out what happens.
