Caesars Augustus Caesar (Octavian)- First emperor of Rome
Julius Caesar- powerful general/emperor who spent money and created a great empire. Gained support of the poor and became one of the most powerful leaders of Rome. Cleopatra- Daughter of ruling family in Egypt whom Caesar put in power as a Roman ally.

Aqueducts and Arches Aqueducts- bridge like structure that carried water to and from the cities. Arches- Rome would build to celebrate power and achievements.

Inflation Inflation- rise of prices cause a decrease in the money value. Started the decline of Rome and made difference between rich and poor grow.

Decline of Rome Two emperors were responsible
Diocletian- realized the empire was too big so he gave power to other emperors and had 3 emperors of Rome. The other two were corrupt and took over his control. Constantine- followed Diocletian, sided with Christians and caused uproar in the community and ultimate destruction of Rome.

Barbarians Barbarians invade Rome and cause the ultimate destruction of the empire.

Decline of the Roman Empire
Political/Military Inadequate government for size of empire Competition for leader Army interference made government unstable. Economics Defending and maintaining empire was expensive Heavy taxes Loss of gold and goods conquest Decline of manufacturing and agriculture. Social Too many poor people to help Loss of patriotism and interest in government and political honesty.
