Do Now Heading: Bridge the Gap
Pick up a packet from the front table. If you have a highlighter, colored pencil, or something to annotate text with please take it out
2
Class Objective For the next 2 days in groups of three we will be designing, building, and testing bridges to see which one can support the most weight.
3
Task 1 Individually read/annotate the Bridge the Gap article.
Page two of your packet. As you read the article underline and or highlight specific pieces of information you think might be helpful to design and build your bridge.
4
Task 2 In your team of 3, create an initial design of what your bridge might look like. Make sure in your design to: Indicate where the pasta/marshmallows would go Describe/ explain specific shapes or characteristics of your bridge that you think makes it strong Show a close up of how you are going to connect the pasta to each other with the marshmallows with specific shapes
5
Example design Long strands of pasta for support from the pillar to the road I am going to use the cubes for the pillars and the road.
7
Task 3 Begin building your bridge with the marshmallows and pasta. ( Use the template to get you started) REMINDER: Keep track of the number of materials you use Ex: If you cut a piece of past into 4 pieces that is still only 1 piece of pasta
8
Clean Up Place all unused pasta/marshmallows back in their bags
Throw away any pieces too small for use One person must keep the design for tomorrow’s peer evaluation Leave your bridges on your table on top of your template. I will put them away
