The doomsday clock is a symbol which represents the likelihood of a man-made global catastrophe. Created in 1947 as the US and Russia both developed hydrogen bombs, the minutes to midnight has been changed 22 times.
The National Geographic show entitled Doomsday Prepping has done much to add to the sense of urgency of an impending global event.
20-35 percent of Americans believe that we can have either a nuclear event or something religious that would mean the end of the world.
