Decision-making skills: steps that enable you to make healthful decisions Often, you should seek advice or feedback from those with more experience Doing so can strengthen bonds and values

Steps of the Decision-Making Process
STATE THE SITUATION. LIST THE OPTIONS. WEIGH THE POSSIBLE OUTCOMES. H (Healthful): What health risks will this present? E (Ethical): Does this choice reflect what you and your family believe to be right? L (Legal): Does this option violate any laws? P (Parent Approval): Would your parents approve? CONSIDER VALUES. MAKE A DECISION AND ACT ON IT. EVALUATE THE DECISION.

Setting Personal Health Goals
What do you want to do with your life? What kind of a career are you interested in? Having a goal helps you focus your energy and efforts Goal: something you aim for that takes planning and work Builds self-confidence Increases self-esteem Improve overall health

Types of Goals Short-term goal: goal that you can reach in a short period of time (day/week/month) Long-term goal: goal that you plan to reach over an extended period of time

Achieving Goals To achieve your goals, create an action plan: a multistep strategy to identify and achieve your goals. Set specific, realistic goals and write it down List the steps you will take to reach your goal. Identify sources of help and support. Set a reasonable time frame to reach your goal. Evaluate your progress by establishing checkpoints. Reward yourself for achieving your goal.
