2 Greatest Search Tool YET! Type in your search word or words.. Searches dynamically and contextually apps, settings, and files! Windows + W for settings, Windows + F for files, Windows +Q for apps

3 Dont need touch screen! Many of the old shortcuts work. Home and End take you to the beginning and end of the apps. Use right click. Use mouse scroll to move across the tiles.

4 Bring in the Charms Windows + C – shortcut to charms Search Share Click on an app then share with people or by e-mail Start Get back to the start page quickly. Devices Manage your second monitor. Settings Wireless Connection Volume Brightness of Screen Notifications Power Keyboard

5 Group Apps by creating a Speed Bump Apps can be grouped and moved around using drag and drop. When you see the vertical bar, you have created a speed bump. Drop the app on the right side of the bar to create a new group. Name the group. Unpin apps that you dont use. Right click using no touch. Hold down using touch until task bar pops up at bottom. Uninstall apps.

6 Text-Based Menu Hold down Windows + X. Quick access to useful tools. Device Manager Control Panel Explore Search Right click bottom left. Doesnt allow access to your applications.

7 Want To See ALL Your Apps? Press Windows + Q. Right-click an empty part of the Start Screen. Swipe your finger up from the bottom of the screen and select All Apps.

8 Shut Down Move cursor to bottom right corner. Click Settings. Hold down Windows + 1. Ctrl + Alt + Del On desktop, click Alt + F4

9 Goodbye Menus and Complex Toolbars Get to the options on the App Bar Click an empty part of the screen. Press Windows + Z. Flick your finger up from the bottom

10 See Whats Running Alt + Tab Brings up apps that are running in middle of screen. Hold down Alt while cycling through apps running. Windows + Tab Brings up pane on the left side showing apps that are running. Ctrl + Shift + Esc Brings up Task Manager that shows apps running.

11 Closing Apps Not Necessary Apps that are minimized when you go to a new one use minimal memory. When the system needs the resources, it will close the app. When you bring it back up though, your stuff will still be there. If you insist on closing the app down: Alt + F4 Ctrl + Shift + Esc Brings up Task Manager so you can close the Apps

12 Immersive Apps Apps that run full screen. You can run 2 apps at once. Swipe from the left and last app turns into a thumbnail. Drop this and one app runs in the sidebar pane and the other takes up the rest of the screen. Can run up to 6 apps with an added program.

13 Tile Magic! Some live tiles take up 2 spaces Right-click to bring up Apps Bar. Choose Smaller. Turn live tile off. Unpin from Start. Uninstall apps.

14 Pin Content to Start Screen You can pin apps to the Start Screen, but you can also pin content! Click the app you want. Choose content from the app. Right-click and choose Pin to Start Organize your collection of information by dropping them in a group together then naming the group.

16 Create Your Own Shortcuts Right-click on the desktop and choose Create shortcut. Browse for your application to shortcut or Type in a shortcut such as: shutdown.exe -h -t 00 (Hibernate) shutdown.exe -s -t 00 (Shutdown) Click Next. Name it then click Finish. Can drag to Task Bar at bottom of Desktop Screen.

17 Intelligent Screengrabs Press PrtSc. Automatically goes to My Pictures or Dropbox or Skydrive

18 SmartScreen and Windows Defender Reports relate that more malware is stopped by Internet Explorers SmartScreen than other programs. Must remove other virus software before Windows Defender can be turned on.

19 Personalize From the Start Screen, type personalize. Personalize Pictures and colors on desktop Sounds Screensaver

20 Picture Passwords Search for create a picture password. Can also do Windows + 1. Click change picture password. Confirm your password. Use the current picture or change the picture. Draw 3 gestures on your picture. Confirm the 3 gestures. Press Windows + L to lock your screen. Try your picture password.

22 Limited Bandwidth? If you are worried about bandwidth, you can: Turn live tiles off. Set your wireless connection as a metered connection.

23 Sync and Privacy Connect with your Microsoft account and all settings will be the same on your laptop and tablet. Sync calendars, contacts, e-mail details, etc.

24 Have Fun Too! Create radio stations using the music app. Search the Store to see whats new. Play Xbox games.
