WELCOME TO PAB - MDM

MDM Objectives: Government of India launched the scheme in January 2003 for the children. Studying in Primary schools (Classes I to V). Extended to Upper Primary schools (Classes VI to VIII) in October, 2008. Further extended to the children studying in centres under National Child Labour Project (NCLP) from the Academic Year of To improve the nutritional and health standard of the growing children. Elimination of class-room hunger. Increase in enrolment, more significantly of girls. Improve in daily attendance particularly of girls and children from poorer sections. To reduce drop-outs. Socializing among castes and empower women employment.

Action taken report on PAB-2017-18 Comments:
Sl.No Comment Action Taken 1 Coverage of Children It is submitted that the average coverage of children has been increased to 89% during the year from 82% due to taking appropriate measures to improve the coverage of children. 2 Kitchen-cum-stores: In RURAL areas total 7080 schools were sanctioned to construct kitchen-cum- stores with 55% share from School Education Department i.e. Rs lakhs and 45% share under MGNREGS programme. i.e. Rs lakhs. Also sanctioned kitchen-cum-stores in 194 Model schools with 55% Share from school Education Department i.e. Rs lakhs and 45% share from MGNREGS i.e., Rs lakhs. The above works are being executed by the Rural Development Department. Sanctioned kitchen-cum-stores in 400 schools in Urban areas with Rs lakhs (100% share) from School Education Department and the works are being executed by TSEWIDC.

In 3055 schools the Implementing Agencies are using LPG and in 1468 schools the NGOs are serving MDM through Centralized Kitchens. The Government of Telangana has addressed the Government of India for relaxation on ceiling for supply of cylinders under Mid Day Meal Scheme with domestic price and also providing additional budget for purchase of gas stoves and connections. 5 Data Entry on MIS-Web Portal During the visit of Joint Review Mission, it is observed that the data entry in MDM –MIS portal is not tallying with the utilization of food grains. The action was taken and re-entered the corrected data during the year

Meetings of District Level Committee The 10 District Level Committee meetings are conducted under the Chairpersonship of Senior most member of Parliament of Lok Sabha and 37 meetings are conducted under the Chairpersonship of District Collectors concerned.

State Initiatives The State Government made provision of MDM to students of Class IX and X with 100% contribution. The State Government has provisioned an additional cooking cost of Rs.2/- per day per child to provide three eggs a week to each child in MDM with an amount of Rs Cr thus adding protein content of the meal. From , the State Government is supplying Super Fine variety of Rice. Material pertaining to Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in the form of books and calendars have been printed and supplied to all the schools in the state for effective implementation of MDM.

Contd.... Training was given to all the cook-cum-helper involved in implementation of Mid day meals scheme in collaboration with UNICEF. The Society for Social Audit Accountability and Transparency (SSAAT), Department of Rural Development, Government of Telangana is conducted Social Audit of the 6 schools per district in 10 Districts of Telangana.

The menu for all days in a week is displayed at prominent place in all the schools.

Cook-cum-helpers are wearing head gears and gloves at the time of cooking of meals
Instructions are issued to all the DEOs to issue necessary instructions to all the Head Masters to see that cook-cum-helpers take all precautionary measures to prepare food in a safe manner, in hygienic atmosphere including wearing head gears and gloves at the time of cooking meals and keep the surroundings clean and tidy. In Warangal (U) One Private college has donated Under Uddeepana programme the CCH were aprons and caps to all the CCH in the schools provided the personal protective equipment on hygiene and sanitation while cooking MDM.

RBSK- Provision of micro-nutrients, Vitamin-A, de-worming medicine, Iron and Folic acid (WIFS):
The Government of Telangana has developed an app of RBSK, Telangana in Google Play Store. The team of Doctors are uploading the data on the same day of visiting the schools about the screening of students. The details of district wise screened are available in rbsk.telangana.gov.in portal. The following are the components of Health services covered under the Programme: Screening, Health care and referral Immunization Micronutrient (Vitamin A and Iron Folic Acid) management De-worming Health promoting schools The Doctor (s) who work in the Primary Health Center nearer to the School visit the school twice in a month and conducts health checkup of the students. The Health registers are maintained at the School level and are updated regularly. Cases which need further health care are referred to the District and State level referral hospitals.

Hand Wash Facility Battery of taps is provided in the schools for hand washing before and after the meals.

Details of the contingency plan to avoid any untoward incident: printing of important phone numbers (e.g. Primary health Centre, hospital, Fire Brigade etc) on the walls of school building 108 emergency services (Mobile medical vans) are being utilized in case of any untoward incident in Mid Day Meal Scheme and they are connected to the Local Hospitals/ Public Health Centers in case of any emergency. The contact numbers of Local medical Officer, Health Center/Hospital, Police, Tahasildar and Mandal Education Officer are made available to schools for emergency help.

Details of safe drinking water facilities, availability of facilities for water filtration i.e. RO, UV, Candle filter, Activated corbon filter etc. and source of their funding 1251 schools are having water filteration facility for providing safe drinking water to the students. Out of which 589 are provided by the Government, 68 are provided by CSR and 594 are given as donation. RO Plant at Government High School (Old), Karimanagar. Budget of Rs. 1 lakh funded by Member of Legislative Council.

Kitchen-sum-stores : Details of the kitchen cum stores constructed in convergence. Details of the agency engaged for the construction of these kitchen cum stores. In RURAL areas total 7080 schools were sanctioned to construct kitchen-cum- stores with 55% share from School Education Department i.e. Rs lakhs and 45% share under MGNREGS programme. i.e. Rs lakhs. Also sanctioned kitchen-cum-stores in 194 Model schools with 55% Share from school Education Department i.e. Rs lakhs and 45% share from MGNREGS i.e., Rs lakhs. The above works are being executed by the Rural Development Department. Sanctioned kitchen-cum-stores in 400 schools in Urban areas with Rs lakhs (100% share) from School Education Department and the works are being executed by TSEWIDC. The funds have been deposited in the concerned accounts of agencies and the construction of work is under progress.
