Insulin resistance (evaluated by HOMA method) deteriorated in the immediate post-UAM and then improved significantly (p<0.05). Adiponectin levels acutely declined after the procedure (p<0.001) and then stabilised at slightly lower than baseline levels (p<0.05).

C-reactive protein's levels registered an acute increase (p<0.001) and rapid decrease in the postoperative period. Interleukin-6 values acutely increased after UAM (p<0.05) and then returned to baseline values.
