Changes in the gene pool of a population could result in the evolution of a new species!
MACROEVOLUTION: refers to the appearance of new species over time

10. Okapi Giraffe
Found in central Africa. Considered a living fossil. Family Girrafidae contains only two living members, the giraffe and the okapi. Both are confined to sub-Saharan Africa: the giraffe to the open savannas, and the okapi to the dense rainforest of the Congo. The two species look very different on first sight, but share a number of common features, including long, dark-coloured tongues, lobed canine teeth, and horns covered in skin, called "ossicones".

- occurs when a physical barrier divides a population
EX – changes in sea level, building a road

12. How Speciation Occurs Reproductive Isolation
- occurs when formerly interbreeding organisms can no longer mate
EX – different genes, behavioral differences, etc.
