Centriole and Nucleus By:Patrice and Nina
2
Definitions: Centrioles-They help to organize the assembly of microtubules during cell division They replicate during the interphase stage of mitosis and meiosis Nucleus-A dense organelle in most eukaryotic cells that contain genetic materials
3
Where it’s found Located near the nucleus but they cannot be seen very well when the cell is not dividing. Centrioles are found in pairs and move towards the opposite ends of the nucleus when it is time for cell division
4
Functions: Nucleus- it controls protein synthesis, cell division, growth and differentiation. It also has the ability to carry hereditary material and stores proteins and RNA in the nucleolus. The nucleus is also used for transcription. It has the ability to aid in the exchange of DNA and RNA. The nucleus also regulates the integrity of genes.
5
Functions: Centrioles: Function #2- Celiogenesis Function #1-
Main function is to help with Cell division in Animal Cells They help in the formation of the spindle fibers that separate the chromosomes during cell division Occurs during the anaphase stage of Mitosis. The chromosomes move towards the different poles of the cell. (without centrioles the chromosomes won’t move) Function #2- Celiogenesis Celiogenesis is the formation of Cilia and Flagella on the surface of cells Cilia and Flagella help the cell move
6
Why is it important? Nucleus- The function of the nucleus is to maintain gene integrity and control gene expression. Centriole- Very important part of centrosomes, which are involved in organizing microtubules in the cytoplasm. The position of the centriole determines the position of the nucleus and plays a crucial role in the spatial arrangement of the cell
7
Size and Shape Centriole- Usually are sphere-shaped
Nucleus Usually are sphere-shaped range from 5 to 10mm in diameter can be dense Centriole- Arranged around a central cavity to form a Cylinder 0.2mm diameter .5 micrometers in length
8
What happens if it doesn’t work ?
Nucleus- the cell without a nucleus is like a person without a brain, it would not be able to function. Since the nucleus is the control center of the cell, the cell would die off if the nucleus was not prepared. Centrioles- Mitosis and Meiosis would not proceed properly
