Since August 2014, the 4th Sunday of each month…
We have addressed several things about reaching the lost – attitudes, perspective, example, tools to help us, obstacles we face, etc. Now we begin to examine what to teach
2
Where do we start? What does one need to know? What do I need to know? Where do we begin our studies? Questions to ask Finding a course that works for you Offering the invitation Answering objections, etc.
3

Evangelism 2016 What does one need to know?
4
Where do we start? Do we seek to teach in one session or several? The better informed one is before obeying, the greater their chance of remaining faithful Matthew 13:18-23
5
The authority of God’s word
One must first understand the Bible is the word of God – do NOT assume this! How authority is established? Jesus – Matthew 28:18, Hebrews 2: John 9, Rev. 22:8-9
6
The authority of God’s word
There are many false standards – parents, tradition, human wisdom, majority, conscience, etc. A willingness to obey – Matthew 28:19-20, 7:21-23
7
He is a sinner, needs salvation
What is sin? 1 John 3:4, James 4:17 Romans 3:23, 6:23 Death the consequence of our sins – Gen. 2:15-17, Rom. 5:12, Eph. 2:1, Isaiah 59:1-2 Man cannot save himself!

9
Through His word, God has revealed what He expects – 2 Peter 1:3
Jesus is the answer Through His word, God has revealed what He expects – 2 Peter 1:3 This is God’s part – grace, Ephesians 2:8-9 An understanding of God’s plan of redemption helps!
10
What it means to believe in Jesus
Acts 16:30-31, the Philippian jailer. (Note: I introduce this, anticipating the need to deal with “faith only”) Ephesians 2:8-9 Faith is descriptive of man’s part. He must obey – Hebrews 11, James 2:14-26
11
What it means to believe in Jesus
Man must: Hear – Romans 10:17 Believe – John 8:24, Mark 16:16 Repent – Acts 2:38, 3:19, etc. Confess Jesus – Romans 10:9-10, cf. Acts 8:36-37 Be baptized – Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, 22:16, Gal. 3:27, 1 Peter 3:20-21, etc. Emphasized and explained!

What is repentance? This needs special attention!
Repentance involves a changed mind leading to changed conduct Acts 2:38 – becoming a Christian Acts 8:22 – as a Christian 2 Corinthians 7:10-11
13
The church in God’s plan
This too needs special attention! There is much confusion. We must help them find the one true church. ONE – Ephesians 4:4, 1: It belongs to Jesus – Matthew 16:18-19, Acts 20:28
14
The church in God’s plan
Not every church teaches the truth! We find His church in His word – 1 Tim. 3:15, 2 Tim. 3:16-17 She will teach – true plan of salvation, organization & work, proper worship, etc.

The need to remain faithful
Obeying the gospel is not the end – it is the beginning! Romans 6:3-4, 1 Peter 2:2 We MUST stay faithful – Revelation 2:10, 1 Corinthians 15:58 Galatians 5:4, 2 Peter 2:20-22, Hebrews 10:26-31
16
The need to remain faithful
It is imperative that one realize the need to learn more after they obey the gospel. Seek a commitment from them! YOU and I also must realize they need to learn more! It is our job to keep teaching!
17
Saving souls is more than baptizing someone!
It is about helping them understand what they must do to be saved and to stay saved (faithful)!
