3 3 C’s Communication: Choose words wisely- Use “I” statements instead of “You.” State your feelings-Pay attention to body language Pay attention to his/her words. Don’t plan your response. Cooperation: working together for the good of all (Team Work). Compromise: Each person giving up something to reach a solution that satisfies everyone.

8 Communication Styles Aggressive- overly pushy, forceful, or hostile.
Passive- being unwilling to or unable to express thoughts and feelings in a direct or firm manner. Assertive- expressing your views clearly and respectfully

10 “I” messages A statement that focuses on your feelings rather than someone else’s behavior For example: You message- “Why can’t you ever show up on time?” I message- “I don’t really like to be left waiting.”

11 Role Play #1 You are standing in a group with bunch of your friends there is one person that tends to monopolize the communication. Use an “I” message to encourage the person to listen to other points of view.

12 Role Play #2 Aaron’s friend Louise is the kind of person that always wants to have her own way. Louise always decides where they will go and what they will do. Aaron wants to be friends with Louise but is tired of being pushed around. What “I” message could you use to handle this issue?

13 Role Play #3 Your mother is constantly bothering you to do your chores. You are really stressed about because there is a big math test coming up and you need to study. Use an “I” message to effectively communicate with your mommy.

14 Role Play #4 You come home and your sibling is constantly taking things from your room. Use a proper “I” message to effectively communicate with them.
