1 Week Seven, Day Two Novel Unit: The Tale of Despereaux
Fourth Grade ELA Week Seven, Day Two Novel Unit: The Tale of Despereaux This session will be recorded for learning purposes.  Learning purposes include: a lesson review for students who are absent, students who want to review for a test, etc. and will be distributed for learning purposes.

3 Ask students to complete in BO rooms with buddy

4 Phonics RF 4.3 Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words. Objective: Identify prefixes and suffixes and their meanings. Intro each prefix and ask students to brainstorm words containing these prefixes in the chat

5 Let’s take a look back at Book the First…

6 Light Dark Place students in BO rooms and ask them to draw a scene that represents light and dark

7 What do you think were the three most important events?

8 Vocabulary chiaroscuro = the contrast of light and dark (in works of art) inordinate = unusually large or excessive Ask students to read definitions on mic and discuss meanings WG

9 Teacher Read Aloud Now that you know the definition of the word “chiaroscuro”, what do you think will happen in Book the Second? (RL 4.1) Ask for student responses in chat and on microphone

10 Teacher Read Aloud Using your whiteboard tools, highlight the examples of light and dark imagery.

11 Teacher Read Aloud How would you describe Roscuro so far? Is he a “light” character or a “dark” character? (RL 4.3) Ask for student responses in chat and on mic

12 Teacher Read Aloud Roscuro says the meaning of life is “light”. Botticelli says the meaning of life is “suffering”. What do you think the meaning of life is?

13 Teacher Read Aloud How would you describe Botticelli? Is he a “light” character or a “dark” character? (RL 4.3)

14 Buddy Breakout Place students in BO rooms to complete

15 Closure What do you think Roscuro will do (RL 4.1)?
