Molar Mass Molar mass- same as atomic mass but for a compound rather than an atom. To determine the molar mass of any compound you add up the atomic mass of all atoms present. NaCl = g/mol (amu)

Subscript numbers mean there are that many of that atom. CaI2 = or you can multiply x 2 = = g/mol (amu)

Parentheses and a subscript number mean there are that many of everything in the parentheses Be(OH)2 ( ) x 2 = (17.008) x 2 = = g/mol

molar mass is the conversion factor that many grams equal one mole of the substance! so 64 g of NaCl 64 g NaCl 1 mole NaCl 58.44 g NaCl = 1.1 mol NaCl
