Objective 7 CPR and First Aid
2
If your hands lose contact during chest compressions find the notch and re-position your hands
If a person is feeling chest pain and also nausea then they are probably having a heart attack The carotid pulse is found on the neck If someone complains of a sudden headache, slurred speech, and begins to stumble and fall then call 911 right away
3
When providing care to someone who has a possible neck injury then use a jaw thrust without chin lift to open the airway On a child under 8 use one hand for chest compressions Chest compressions provide oxygen to cells…replacing the function of the heart If someone is choking but coughing you should encourage them to keep coughing…only!
4
When performing abdominal thrusts on a conscious, adult person place your hands in the middle of the abdomen just above the navel The purpose of rescue breathing is to supply oxygen to body cells When you arrive on a scene of an emergency you should FIRST survey the scene for safety When rescue breathing for a child you should give just enough air to make the chest rise
5
When performing CPR on an infant the ration of chest compressions to breaths is 5 to 1
When you are alone with an unconscious child you should perform 1 minute of care before calling 911
