11th Grade Health Mrs. Janet Hock-Balli / Ms. “J”

2 “Ms. J”’s Bio Received B.S. in Sports Medicine from East Stroudsburg University. Athletic Trainer for 24 years (College, Semi-Pro football, Pro Soccer, High School) Received Teacher certification from Eastern University in 2010. 7th Year Teaching at East High Awarded Awesome Educator Award for S.Y. Working on Masters in Adaptive P.E. Mother of 8 year old- Ava Marie, 2 year old Adam Jr. as well as “bonus” mom to Aaron -14 y/o, Matthew- 12 y/o and Madison- 7 y/o

3 Expectations of Student
Be prompt Be ready to learn when class begins. Be prepared Have materials with you and know due dates. Be a polite and positive participant Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. Be productive Turn in work on time, and always do your best. Be part of the solution. Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.

4 Expectations Be empathic and respectful to classmates feelings and opinions. We talk about sensitive topics and you don’t know who is going through or has gone through something we are discussing - RESPECT

5 Promote Positive Productivity
My responsibility is to equip the students with the tools needed in order to be productive in their lives after High School. Job, Responsibilities, and Relationships Military Service Post Secondary Education: Trade school, Technical School, College ect.

6 Grading Grades are based on an 60%/40% split. Based on:
Class participation (effort) and completion of assignments (daily work, in-class work) 40% Major projects, exams, and Quizzes 60% Grades are posted online and updated every Monday by 8 am. Our Grading Scale 90-100% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 60-69% = D Below 60% = F Grades are calculated on cumulative percentage and are rounded up whenever possible.

7 Health Units Psycho-Social Wellness: Health triangle, Decision making/goal setting, Character Mental/Emotional Health- Depression, Mental illness, Suicide ect. Social Health- Relationships, Bullying, ect. Nutrition: Easting disorders, Reading food labels, Nutrition project. Chemical Substances: Types, Effects of drugs on the body, Refusal skills, Causes of abuse, ect. Human Sexuality: Anatomy, Reproductive health, Conception to birth, Abstinence, STDS, Contraceptives HIV/AIDS: Risk behaviors, Prevention, Transmission
