Historical Background
1997 – need to provide holistic nursing care & retain experienced nurses in clinical field – 1 nurse seconded 2001 – emphasis changed – need to reduce number of GP trainees – 1 nurse seconded 2003 – EWTD – 2 nurses seconded 2004 – establishing effective ANNP – team 1 nurse seconded, trying to recruit others 09/12/2018

ANNP Role in Blackburn (1)
NICU based practitioners with own rota Work alongside SHOs – medical management & clinical procedures Attend high risk deliveries & emergencies on CDS & in theatre Attend postnatal wards for reviews and emergencies SHO induction, support and guidance 09/12/2018

ANNP / SHO Timeshare Mon – Fri: 0830 – 1630 NICU SHO ‘in charge’, ANNP supports ‘Crash’ bleep held by P/N ward SHOs Mon - Fri: 1630 – 2045 ANNP holds ‘crash’ bleep Sat – Sun: 0830 – 2100 ANNP ‘in charge’ on NICU SHO goes to P/N wards & holds ‘crash’ bleep 09/12/2018
