Jesus’ discussion with His disciples
John 4:27-38 What are Jesus’ disciples thinking when they return? What does the Samaritan woman do when Jesus’ disciples return? Why? What does she leave behind? She came in need of physical water and ended up leaving her water pot behind … Jesus had introduced her to a more urgent need. Revelation 22:1, 17

Jesus’ discussion with His disciples
John 4:27-38 After leaving the water pot, she “went into the city and said to the men, ‘Come, see a man who told me all the things that I have done; this is not the Christ (Messiah) is it?’” “This is a day of good news …”; 2 Kings 7:9; (cf. Jeremiah 20:9; 1 Corinthians 9:16-17)

Jesus’ discussion with His disciples
John 4:27-38 “Come and see” – John 1:39, 46 (“universally, to perceive, notice, discern, discover”; Thayer) “… this is not the Christ is it?” – why would someone state this in the negative? Matthew 12:23; John 7:26, 31. What would have to change if instead we said, “This most certainly is the Christ!” How much impact can a woman married 5 times and currently living in fornication have? Verse 30, 39-42

Jesus’ discussion with His disciples
John 4:27-38 Jesus’ disciples urge Jesus to take food and eat. Jesus’ response: “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” On what plane did Jesus disciples receive and respond to that statement? Jesus defined what sustains Him: “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.”
