Neuter Words So far, we have had masculine and feminine words. What declensions are they used in? Are there any exceptions? What does neuter mean?

Neuter Nouns in 2nd Declension What are the differences
2nd declension neuter nouns end in –um or –ium in nominative singular. These nouns follow the chart for 2nd declension nouns, EXCEPT for nominative plural and accusative plural, which end in –a.

HINT It takes a little while to remember that an ‘-a’ ending can be accusative. Learning everything about your vocabulary words can help with this – you need to know the gender of the words

Adjectives Adjectives also have neuter forms.
barbarus (masculine) barbara (feminine), barbarum (neuter) Will be shown in book as: barbarus, -a, -um
