Vocabulary you need to know
Force and Motion Vocabulary you need to know
2
Force: A push or pull in a certain direction
3
Motion A change in position over time.
4
push Using force to move an object away from you
5
pull Using force to move an object toward you.
6
A force that is created when two surfaces slide past each other.
friction A force that is created when two surfaces slide past each other.
7
gravity A force that pulls objects toward earth.
8
inertia An object remains at rest or in motion unless acted on by another force. An object will resist a change in motion.
9
Balanced forces Balanced forces are two forces acting in opposite directions on an object and equal in size. The object will stay still or will continue moving at the same speed and same direction.
10
Unbalanced forces When two forces acting on an object are not equal in size. This force can cause a change in speed or direction.
11
momentum Momentum is a measurement of mass in motion. Any object that is moving has momentum. The greater the mass or speed of an object, the greater the momentum.
12
speed The distance an object traveled divided by the time it took to get there. Speed = distance/time
13
acceleration The name we give to any process where the velocity (speed or direction) changes.
14
A measure of how fast something moves in a particular direction.
