Proposed model for SLCO2A1 role in thiazide-induced hyponatremia. (Left) Under low antidiuretic hormone conditions, the apical prostaglandin transporter (PGT) reduces prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) levels in the luminal fluid and water permeability remains low. (Right) A reduction in PGT activity allows PGE2 to activate EP4 receptors leading to osmotic water reabsorption.
