1 5th Grade Final Review

2 Vocabulary: Fill the blanks
Plate Tectonics Weathering Erosion Deposition Hot Spot Atmosphere Faults Metamorphic Rock Sedimentary Rock Igneous Rocks Renewable Resource Nonrenewable Resource Aquifer Mineral Soil

3 __________________ is the process of dropping off bits of eroded rock
A ________________ is a rock that forms when sedimentary and igneous rocks change under heat and pressure. Rock that forms as the lava cools and hardens is called ______________ Deep cracks in the Earth’s crust are called __________________ The process of carrying away soil or pieces of rock is called ________________ Resource that cannot be replaced within a short period of time is called __________ A mixture of bits of rock and bits of once-living things is called ______________

4 A ______________ is a solid material of Earth’s crust with a distinct composition
An ______________ is an underground layer of rock or soil that has pores and can absorb water Scientific theory that Earth’s crust is made of moving plates is called ___________ A resource that can be replaced in a short period of time is called _________ _____________________ is the process through which rocks are broken down The ____________________ is the layer of gases that surround Earth A rock that forms from sediments is called ____________ Stationary pool of flowing magma that causes island arcs to form is called __________

5 Match: use the words in the word box and match them to the definition.
_______ The condition of the troposphere at a particular place and time. _______ The meeting place of an air mass with a different type of air mass. _______ The force put on a given area by the weight of the air above it. _______ The solar energy that reaches the planet. _______ Any storm with a low pressure center that causes a circular pattern of winds. _______ The average weather of a place. _______ The amount of water vapor in the air. _______ Large region of the atmosphere in which the air has similar properties. Weather Front Cyclone Climate Air Pressure Humidity Air mass Insolation

6 Which layer is solid, and which is liquid?
Earth’s Layers Which layer is solid, and which is liquid?

7 How many centimeters per year does the sea floor spreads?
Ocean Floor Spreading How many centimeters per year does the sea floor spreads?

8 Types of rocks: write the names and do a simple drawing that explain the three types of rocks

9 Movement of Molecules in Air
As the flame heats up the air, the molecules move faster, they spread out making the hotter air less dense (lighter) than the cooler dense air (heavier). There are fewer molecules in the hotter air than in the cool air.

10 Clouds: draw lines from the names to the descriptions of each cloud.
They form at the highest altitudes Cirrus Clouds They form at middle altitudes Can cause heavy rain Cumulus Clouds If they are white it means good weather They form at low altitudes Stratus Clouds They bring changes in the weather
