Themes Don’t Trust Everything You Hear
Lungwort believes everything Mr. Ocax says, but half the things are not true, such as the fact that Mr. Ocax protects the mice, and that porcupines eat mice Don’t Judge Things By Their Looks Poppy got scared of the owl at New House, because it was huge. Later she found out it was fake, because she asked a cat that lives at the house

Conflicts and Resolutions
Poppy is in danger of being eaten by Mr. Ocax She is described as clever, and half the time that saves her, and the other half Ereth does, because Mr. Ocax is not fond of him. Poppy needs to get the salt for Ereth, because she promised to do so During the fight With Mr. Ocax, Ocax slams into the salt chunk, causing the salt to break onto the ground. Poppy needs to find out why Mr. Ocax won’t let the mice move to New House While Poppy is at New House, she discovers a large fake owl. She then realizes that Mr. Ocax is afraid of losing his dinner.

Poppy’s Thinking Poppy’s thinking of the outside world changes in different ways She thinks differently of Dimwood Forest During her first time in the forest, she describes it as dark and scary Later, she says the forest is beautiful and bright Throughout the story, Poppy’s insight of the outside world changes In the beginning of the story, Poppy is scared to be seen, like when she goes dancing with Ragweed Throughout the middle of the story, Poppy becomes part of the outside world

Personal Reflection My personal reflection is very ambiguous, because not all of my thoughts go together. I was very confused when Ocax said his last words, “Sometimes I wonder why I bother to protect you mice.” Was he just continuing with his lies? I feel that maybe a brave mouse will have an adventure like this; staying away from pray, trying to help the family, learning to live on their own, and to be cautious. My favorite part was when Poppy met Ereth, because of the way she freaked out when she found out Ereth was a porcupine. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventures and leadership stories.
