2 Georgia State Government Agencies
Office of Governor/Lieutenant Governor Georgia General Assembly – House of Representatives and Senate Secretary of State The Lieutenant Governor presides over the Georgia State Senate of 56 representatives. The Speaker of the House of Reps. would become Governor if he or his Lieutenant Gov. could not fulfill his duties. He is elected by a majority vote and comes from the majority party.

4 Citizen Rights and Responsibilities
To vote for government reps. To a fair trial with jury To be a part of a political party To services provided by tax dollars RESPOSIBILITIES: 19 or over register to vote Serve on Jury Duty Know the issues before voting Pay federal and local taxes

5 How a bill becomes a law Bills are generated on interest groups who request legistlation Introduction of bill can only be made by a member of the House of Reps or Senate Bill are assigned to a committee to be looked over and possibly revise. All legislators are assigned to two or more committees Subcommittees receive the bill to further study it The bill is approved through the house it is in and then send to the other house for he same process to occur A conference committee then works out compromises in the two versions of the bill The bill goes back to the floor to be voted on The bill is sent to the Governor for approval

Use the Graphic Organizer provided to complete information on local government: Use pages of the Old Coach Book and pages of the New Coach Book to find your information. Then look up Douglas County, Ga government on the internet to answer the questions For your final Graphic Organizer on “Forms of Municipal Government”, use page 225 of the old Coach book to complete. All work is due to me on Monday!!

7 Local Government County: County Commissioner Mayor Sheriff Municipal:
City Manager Mayor Sheriff Special Purpose districts are created to meet specific needs of the people in a specific county or city such as maintaining rec. parks, rebuilding town squares, setting up housing projects.
