Lead Scotland Linking Education and Disability
Young people and employability Young disabled people are disproportionally disadvantaged in their search for work. Developing Scotland’s workforce shows that when someone is 16 they have the same aspirations as their peers and are 4 times as likely not to be in work by the time they are 26 Disabilty hate crime is prevalent Disclosure rates in modern apprenticeships are 0.4% Half the young people on our employability services don’t identify as disabled However despite this………I want to briefly talk about 3 of our programmes which make a difference

“I have fun and feel good about myself” “My confidence had improved and I feel really good about going into work” “The volunteering is helping me get out more” Activity Agreements young people who have just left school at risk of dropping out One to one support by staff Engagement of people who are hard to reach Not cherry picking those closest to employment Building self belief Soft outcomes
