1 Scarborough Survivors Who are we?

2 Governed by a Board of Trustees, remaining at 51% service users
Established in 1994, purchased 9 Alma Square, Scarborough, 1997 (The Resource Centre) Governed by a Board of Trustees, remaining at 51% service users Funded by North Yorkshire County Council HAS, TEWV and CCG (core funding stands currently at £ of which £3576 is the contribution of Scarborough CCG, this has for the past three years had an additional uplift of £10,000 per annum) Staffed by 1 full time staff member, The Chief Executive Officer supported by Centre Coordinator (funded via project money), Team of 15 volunteers

3 What we do Social Inclusion by way of the Resource Centre, over 5 days per week Monday – Thursday 11.30am – 4.30pm and Friday 11.00am – 1.30pm Well-Being activities taking place on a daily basis at the Resource Centre and out in the community Support and Signposting to partner agencies with specialisms to assist the service user in every aspect of their life (Financial support, Housing support) etc. Self-Help and Listening Ear facilitated sessions on a Friday for service users to share coping strategies, experiences and receive peer support

4 What else we do Workshops based on the CHIME Framework of recovery
Connectedness – A sense of belonging, being part of the world, having supportive relationships Hope – Having a sense that things will get better, that life is worth living Identity – Beyond a diagnosis, key strengths, interests, skills Meaning- Having a purpose, what gets us out of bed on a morning, recognising that even the smallest tasks have a meaning Empowerment – Gaining control over what happens to us (wherever possible) having knowledge and information which allows us to make informed choices.

5 What training we can provide to the community
Mental Health First Aid (Mental Health First Aid England) We work towards helping building communities where people can recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health issues, provide help on a first aid basis and effectively guide someone towards the right support service. ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) ASIST teaches participants to recognise when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safely.

7 Networks & Partnerships along with the above partnerships we also
Work in partnership with the Scarborough & Whitby Job Centre+, providing bi-weekly surgeries, offering 30minute appointments for clients who attend the Job Centre and are struggling with poor mental health. Brief interventions, stay well plans and signposting. This often leads to volunteering or work placement opportunities. North Yorkshire Horizons – To assist those clients who have drug and alcohol issues, but are also suffering from poor mental health. Awareness workshops take place at the Dual Diagnosis drop in. Community Angels – To offer out-reach support to those people who are unable to access the Resource Centre and need some community based support. Scarborough DAG (Disability Action Group), supporting service users with benefit queries, assessments and tribunals.

8 Coming Soon Commissioned by the Police & Crime Commissioner CRISIS CAFÉ, opening soon on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 8.00pm – 1.00am the Resource Centre will be operating as a crisis café. Assisting people in distress at the time of distress, in a safe homely environment. Providing a holistic, non-judgemental, empathic and respectful service. Staffed by 1 Senior Support Worker and 2 Support Workers, who will in turned helped out by Experts by Experience volunteers. This new initiative has been planed and developed with the assistance of colleagues from TEWV, Crisis Team, Locality Manager, Development Manager, Head of Service, SBC Community Impact Team, North Yorkshire Police
