Goal To Design a device using High-Frequency Oscillation that can be used to ventilate a neonatal through pediatric patient in an emergency situation without regard to user interaction or environmental situation

Our Criteria Delivers sufficient O2 to infant
Does not cause harm to either patient or caregiver Is portable Accommodates patients ranging from neonatal to small child Requires no attention after being setup for use Meets ISO standards

Preliminary ISO Standards
Alarm Testing high-pressure alarms breathing circuit integrity alarms power failure alarms high and low oxygen alarms Variables which must be displayed cycling pressure end-expiratory pressure delivered concentration of oxygen

What is HFO? HFO employs a mechanical oscillating device which forces small impulses of gas both into and out of the airway. This causes the gas in the airway to oscillate in a sinusoidal pattern.

Why HFO? No continual swings in pressure between PEEP (positive end expiratory pressure) and CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) Ability to maintain open alveoli May reduce barotrauma because of less distention in the lungs Ability to facilitate the upward movement of the mucociliary blanket
