Discuss the 1 x table with children and explore why we don’t need to practise recall of these times table facts. Practise each slide until you can recite the facts without looking at the slide, then move onto the next which contains what you have already learnt as well as the next set of times table facts. 11 and 12 times table facts are included. These facts can be mentally calculated if you know your 10, 1 and 2 times tables. However, calculating relies on an additional process and under timed conditions can be difficult and lead to errors. In preparation for the statutory times table tests at the end of year 4 (expected to be introduced for the cohort), it is helpful if these facts can be recalled at speed as questions will only show on screen for a few seconds and children will have to type the answer in before the next question appears.

If you struggle to remember all of the facts, focus on the facts in the box as the ten times table is easy if you understand place value and the eleven and twelve times table facts can be mentally calculated if you know how to multiply by 10 and 1 or 10 and 2.
