2 Green Design Green design is the philosophy of designing products that caters to social, ecological and economic sustainability. Green design considers: Production of furniture (socially & technologically) Packaging and distribution Reusability and recyclability Toxicity during fabrication and use Biodegradability

3 Green Design Green furniture promotes materials that are:
Free of toxic gases Reusable, recyclable and renewable Biodegradable

4 Packaging and Distribution
IKEA's furniture is designed to be self assembled. This reduces costs and use of packaging materials. Flat-pack methods allowing for easier transport.

5 Recyclable Bar and Knell produces furniture from 100% recycled plastic. Plastic packaging waste is used to produce useful everyday items.

6 Recyclable The GUBI Chair II consists of two recyclable materials: Steel tubing and PET fiber. Plastic bottles are made into PET felt mats. In one single process two mats made from this felt are molded around a steel tube frame, water cut, reducing the cost and time of production.

8 Universal Design Universal design is an attempt to meet the needs of a wide range of people. Age range (8years to 80years) Abilities: wheel chair users, arthritis users, blind and deaf users etc Adjustability and size transformation are the two main strategies used. Eg: desks and tables that have adjustable work surfaces. Chairs that have adjustable heights. Shelf that accommodates wheel chair users.
