Baptism… From a Chart Sermon by Steve Hudgins ? Then What
2
Baptism is… A burial – Col. 2.12 In water – Acts 8.35-38
For accountable beings – Mk For remission of sins – Acts 2.38 For salvation – Mk ; 1 Pet. 3.21 Into Christ – Gal 3.27 To become new creature – Rom 6.3-5; 2 Cor 5.17 Into the One Body – 1 Cor 12.13
3
Then… Walk in new life Rom 6:4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
4
Then… Study and grow – 2 Tim 2.15; 2 Pet 3.18
2Ti 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2Pe 3:18 but grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
5
Then… A servant of righteousness – Rom 6.17-18
Rom 6: But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. (18) And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.
6
Then… Keep self pure – Mt 5.8; 1 Tim 5.22
Mat 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, For they shall see God. 1Ti 5:22 Do not lay hands on anyone hastily, nor share in other people's sins; keep yourself pure.
7
Then… Be an example – Mt 5.16; 1 Tim 4.12
Mat 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. 1Ti 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity.
8
Then… Have faith in God – 1 Pet ; 1 Cor 2.4-5; 1 Cor ; Phil 1Pe 1: knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things… but with the precious blood of Christ… (21) who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
9
Then… Have faith in God – 1 Pet ; 1 Cor 2.4-5; 1 Cor ; Phil 1Co 2:4-5 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, (5) that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.
10
Then… Have faith in God – 1 Pet ; 1 Cor 2.4-5; 1 Cor ; Phil 1 Cor … 1Co 1: For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. (19) For it is written: "I WILL DESTROY THE WISDOM OF THE WISE, AND BRING TO NOTHING THE UNDERSTANDING OF THE PRUDENT." (20) Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? (21) For since, in the wisdom of God, the world through wisdom did not know God, it pleased God through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe. (22) For Jews request a sign, and Greeks seek after wisdom; (23) but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block and to the Greeks foolishness, (24) but to those who are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. (25) Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men. (26) For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. (27) But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; (28) and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, (29) that no flesh should glory in His presence.
11
Even in trials…Philippians 1.15-18
Then… Have faith in God – 1 Pet ; 1 Cor 2.4-5; 1 Cor ; Phil Even in trials…Philippians
12
Then… Follow Jesus – 1 Pet 2.21-23
1Pe 2: For to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow His steps: (22) "WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH"; (23) who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;
13
Then… Put first things first – Mt 6.33
Mat 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
14
Then… Resist temptation – Jas 1.12
Jas 1: Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
15
Then… Be fruitful – Jn , 16 Jn 15:1-6 "I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. (2) Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit… (4) Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me. (5) "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. (6) If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.”
