Review of Progress Meeting (weekly)
Professional Journey File Section 2 Associate Teacher Assessment /Review Review of Progress Meeting (weekly)
2
Review of Progress Meeting (weekly).
The review of progress meeting should take place, as far as is possible, at a set time each week. It is important that the AT and the Mentor know exactly when the meeting will take place so that both of you can be fully prepared. The meeting normally takes about one hour. The review of progress is designed to: initially review targets from the previous week (Part 1), to review School-based Learning during the previous week (Part 2), to document the AT’s impact on pupil progress (Part 3), to set targets for the next week (Part 4) and to identify a plan of activities to support AT Progress (Part 5). Page 16 of the PJF gives a breakdown of the responsibilities for each party for the Review of Progress meeting. A hard copy should be kept and a copy uploaded to Abyasa

Review of Progress Part 1: Review of Targets.
It is the AT’s responsibility to complete this section and to identify how each target has been met. If asked, an AT should be able to direct a mentor to examples of this achievement within the files. There should be dialogue between the AT and mentor around the target focussing on how has the target been achieved. For example what has the AT found challenging, rewarding and what is the impact on pupil learning? Following the dialogue the mentor and AT discuss and reflect upon the relevant Standards within the Continuum, identifying where progress has been made. ATs can also annotate the Standards Log Continuum, should they wish. It is important that targets are reviewed together and agree whether there is sufficient progress If a target has not been met, then it can be carried forward to the next week. If this happens several times and an AT is not making progress mentors should refer to the Intervention 1 procedures available at Professional Journey Website.

Review of Progress Part 2 Review of School-based learning. (AT led).
The AT completes this section ahead of the meeting. The AT should reflect on any school based training that has been undertaken, for example having been to a number of classes during the last week to observe SEN teaching in relation to progress with specific aspects of pupil engagement. Areas discussed should be noted . Additionally, points from the lesson observation need to be discussed and notes written (these could be bullet pointed) Any other aspects for discussion could include observations of behaviour management, staff meeting content, attendance at Parents’ evening etc.

Review of Progress Part 3: Mentor and Associate Teacher discussion: how the AT impacted on pupil learning / progress. In Part 3 it is important that the AT reflects on his / her teaching, be this with individuals, groups and or whole classes. These reflections are written into this section. ATs should refer to assessment records LP3a, observations and planning, to support the reflections. Discussions with the mentor then engage the AT in an analysis of their teaching and assessment identifying effective practice and areas for further reflection . Additional dialogue should be recorded by the AT during the meeting (bullet points are acceptable).

Review of Progress Part 4: Weekly Target Setting
Following the dialogue surrounding Parts 1, 2 and 3, and progress so far, mentor and AT identify new targets for the forthcoming week. Please ensure that you are using the Standards Continuum to inform the targets. In the Target box – please do not write out the wording from the Standard. Targets need to be SMART (Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic and Time related). Three to four targets are suggested (some may be carried over from the previous review, dependent on progress). Targets should inform the Weekly Activity Plan – Part 5 (see next slide) Examples of targets are available on Professional Journey Website

Part 5 Weekly Activity This Activity Plan is more than just a teaching timetable. This Plan should outline what the AT is teaching, where directed time and protected time are timetabled and what activity the AT will be engaged in during that time. We would expect that activities are also linked to the relevant standards. A completed example of Part 5 appears in the Mentor Guide. The AT is expected to upload this to Abyasa on a weekly basis.
