11 A mindset is an established way of thinking
A mindset is an established way of thinking. It is a set of beliefs or a certain way of thinking that will determine your behavior, outlook on life, and attitude toward the events, circumstances, and people around you.

12 Fixed Mindset Intelligence and abilities are determined at birth. Some things come easier to some people. Someone with natural ability will not have to work as hard. Avoid Challenges. Not worth the effort. They are good at something or they are not. Give up easily when facing obstacles or challenges. Want to be complimented on end result. Think their abilities determine their future.

13 Tend to persevere and grow when faced with frustration.
Growth Mindset Believe abilities, skill, and intelligence can improve through hard work, practice, and dedication. Believe people put forth a lot of effort in order to be good at something. Hard work is satisfying and fun. Welcome challenges and embrace the effort needed to overcome challenges Believe they can learn any concept or skill that they want as long as they put forth the effort. Tend to persevere and grow when faced with frustration. Want to be complimented on process. Effort and attitude determine their outcomes.

14 Activity Each person will receive a writing prompt. Half of the class will be writing about a character from The Crucible who has a fixed mindset and the other half will be writing about a character with a growth mindset. (10-20 minutes)

15 Jigsaw Meet with a person who wrote about the same mindset as you. (Fixed or Growth) Exchange ideas and begin crafting notes on the back of your writing prompt. Did you pick the same character? If so, what differences and similarities do you have with your partner? If you picked different characters discuss your WHY on choosing that character. Take notes about the character they wrote about. THEN you will meet with a person who wrote about the opposite mindset as you. Discuss & write notes.

16 Exit Ticket After meeting with two other individuals; someone who had the same prompt and someone who had the opposite. Now you will create a Venn Diagram showcasing two characters from The Crucible (one fixed and one growth) and their similarities.
