Advantages:
Inexpensive to create
Easy to use
Easy to learn
Templates available that can be customized
Disadvantage:
Predominately linear presentations
Card/book metaphor
Advantages:
Easy to learn
Direct relationship between what is on a card or page and what is displayed on a screen.
Disadvantages:
Usually run on one platform
Usually limited compared to other authoring programs.
Multimedia Authoring Programs-are used to create multimedia applications.
Four types of Multimedia Authoring Programs are as follows:
Electronic Slide Show
Microsoft's PowerPoint is the most popular and widely used
Card/Book Metaphors
HyperCard was one of the first multimedia programs to use card metaphor and was developed by Apple in 1987.
HyperStudio is a more recent version of HyperCard.
Toolbook is a book metaphor authoring program. Open script is a scripting language for toolbook.

Macromedia Director is a popular timed-based, authoring program, which uses movie metaphor.

Programming languages use programming codes of instructions to be performed by computers.
