The DOI system offers persistent links as stablie references to scientific content
Since 2005 TIB is a DOI registration agency
In 2010 we plan to have DataCite
Global consortium carried by local institutions
focused on improving the scholarly infrastructure around datasets and other non-textual information
focused on working with data centres and organisations that hold data
Providing standards, workflows and best-practice
Initially, but not exclusivly based on the DOI system

Recognizing the importance of research datasets as the foundation of knowledge and sharing a common commitment to promote and establish persistent access to such datasets, we, the signed parties, hereby express our interest to work together to promote global access to research data.
Our long term vision is to support researchers by providing methods for them to locate, identify, and cite research datasets with confidence.
