Probing the Dynamics of Ion Transport by
Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy: Towards the Development of Enhanced Fuel Cell Membranes Marisa C. Buzzeo Barnard College, Department of Chemistry, 3009 Broadway, New York NY 10027 The Buzzeo lab seeks to investigate ion transport and charge separation across membrane surfaces by scanning electrochemical microscopy (SECM). We are specifically interested in understanding the factors that most strongly influence the kinetics of these processes, with the ultimate goal of designing more efficient membrane materials for incorporation into fuel cells. Early studies have focused on characterizing model systems by SECM so as to allow for accurate interpretation and analysis of the more complex systems we aim to study. Importantly, we are able to distinguish clearly between surfaces of varying conductivity.
