Scientists radioactively labeled viral proteins
Scientists radioactively labeled viral proteins. They compared the location of these proteins in bacteriophages and animal viruses. Predict their findings. How is the genetic information unique in retroviruses? Include in your answer the role of reverse transcriptase. Do viruses evolve? If they do how? Can viruses play a role in increasing genetic variety? How? What is the role of restriction enzymes? What kinds of organisms produce them?

What segments of DNA are associated with operons
What segments of DNA are associated with operons? How are they different in induceable and repressible operons? Differentiate between induceable and repressible operons. What advantages are gained by bacteria by having operons? If a nonpathogenic bacterium were to acquire resistance to antibiotics, could this strain pose a health risk to people. Explain. How does genetic recombination in bacteria affect the spread of resistance genes?
3
A strain of E.coli has a mutated, disfunctional regulatory gene for the lac operon. You add a plasmid to these cells that has the normal regulatory gene. Draw a diagram that shows your cell, than answer the questions: Before the addition of the plasmid, would the E.coli strain be able to produce the enzymes for lactose digestion? Explain. After the administration of the plasmid, would the bacterium be able to produce the enzymes for lactose digestion? Explain. If equal amounts of glucose and lactose are present in the environment, would the lac operon in the bacterium be on or off? Why?
