The SRN IR sets out our priorities for the SRN

Modal Integration Our regional spatial planning teams work extensively with local planning departments across the country to reduce road reliance and manage the travel demand created by new development. We also have a relatively new and deeper relationship going with Network Rail – meeting regularly and have identified quite a programme of things to be working on together – for example looking at potential locations for strategic park and rides to support commuter movements. The other thing I wanted to mention here is the way that Highways England has a bit more freedom than its predecessor to invest off-network in projects that improve SRN movements. We are for example investing in various cycle routes, cycle and pedestrian bridges and public transport measures through our cycling, safety and integration designated fund, and through our Growth & Housing Fund investing in several schemes on local roads that ease pressure on the SRN.

Connected Corridors A2/M2
“Connected corridor” from London to Dover to enable vehicles to communicate wirelessly with infrastructure and potentially other vehicles. Instrumenting the A2/M2 with systems which allow roads, infrastructure and vehicles to talk to each other, safely and efficiently. Purpose of the A2/M2 connected corridor test site: Developing European standards for C-ITS (Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems) Informing DfT policy on C-ITS roll out Building business case for connected vehicles Three visions of the project Contribution to Intercor developments UK testbed for autonomous and connected vehicles Connected corridor from Dover to London, connected to Europe.
