How do you transition the content and language of the outline into a speech?

5. Warm-up: Writing Discussion Questions
Go to Canvas to download the Beowulf mini-seminar guide.
Using your text, construct FOUR open-ended discussion questions from chapters of Beowulf.
Questions will be used to prompt small group discussions.
Questions should incorporate the text (quotes) or direct readers to a specific part of the text.
Questions should prompt the small group to provide detailed answers, interpret the literature (think siftt), Draw conclusions, and cite the text as evidence.

6. Discussion Question Examples
In Chapter 13, it says that “sometimes a proud old soldier…would weave a net of words”. What experiences would Anglo-saxon warriors have that would qualify them as storytellers?
On line 445, Beowulf proclaims, “If my time will have come, there will be nothing to mourn over”. What does this passage say about his belief in fate and how his belief make him a more powerful warrior?

7. Small Group Discussion
You only need your questions and your text (for support).
Do Not type or write during discussion.
Use your questions to initiate and carry on the small group literary discussion.
Refer to the text to support your response.

8. Speech Drafting Use your outline to develop a speech draft.
Draft the Introduction of the speech (move onto Background).
Organize the speech on notecards –or- power point slides.

9. Closure-seminar reflection
How did the danes honor Beowulf following his victory over Grendel? What does it say about the danes?
Share insights learned from the small group discussion?
