1 Thank you for not chewing gum or anything else 
Materials: Pencil Notebook Packet Lab Text D-48 Agenda: Bell work Activity 46- Convection Currents Study Guide Thursday, December 10, 2015 Daily Objective: Today we will investigate how convection currents cause plates to move. Daily Question: Explain what happens at a continental-oceanic convergent plate boundary.

2 Convergent Plate Boundary Oceanic/continental
asthenosphere - is a part of the upper mantle just below the lithosphere that is involved in plate tectonic movement Subduction - process that takes place at convergent boundaries by which one tectonic plate moves under another tectonic plate and sinks into the mantle as the plates converge Ex: Andes Mountains Cascade mountain Range Subduction

3 Continental/Continental Convergent Plate Boundary
Earthquakes Mountains Ex: Himalayan Mts.

4 Oceanic/Oceanic Convergent plate boundary.
Trenches Volcanic Island mountains Earthquakes Ex: Solomon Islands

5 Hot Spots Hot Spot: volcanic regions thought to be fed by underlying mantle in which magma is trapped and hot compared with the mantle in other places. Ex: Hawaii & Yellowstone

6 Activity 46: Convection Currents
Vocabulary: Convection- circulation of fluid due to differences in temperature Procedure: Carefully follow procedures 1-10 Analysis Questions: 1-4

7 Table 1. Convection Currents Observations
Procedure # Trial 1 Hot/cold Trial 2 Cold/hot Draw arrows Describe Results Act 46 AQ 1-4
