1 Sentence Types Simple and Compound

2 Simple Sentence A simple sentence has one subject and one predicate (independent clause). Examples: Jim and Sarah went to the movie. The mice scurried around the house.

3 Compound Sentence A compound sentence has two complete sentences (two independent clauses), joined by a coordinating conjunction.

5 Examples of Compound Sentences:
Jim and Sarah went to the movie and they went out for pizza afterwards. A passenger tried to bomb a plane, so airport security is increasing around the world.

6 Another example… Ben’s favourite ice cream is Ben & Jerry’s but he is willing to try Marble Slab Creamery’s ice cream.
